Mesa County, Colo. -- It is never a good idea to lie to law enforcement officers, it is even more regrettable when the person's name you do provide has several warrants for their arrest, and to make things even worse the officer you are speaking with knows you from a previous stay at the Mesa County Detention Facility.

On January 3, 2016,  Cheyenne Dean and Kenneth James, both of Grand Junction, were contacted by Mesa County Deputies on a traffic stop. James identified himself properly and was arrested for several active warrants. Dean, knowing she had active arrest warrants, decided she would be better off providing a family member's name.  Unfortunately for Dean, the family member had active arrest warrants and the Deputy she was speaking with knew her from a previous incarceration. When confronted Dean provided her true identification and was arrested for the active warrants and criminal impersonation.

During a search of the car that James was driving several items of drug paraphernalia and several grams of methamphetamine were found.  Both Dean and James were charged with Possession of a Schedule II Drug.

Methamphetamines continues to have a significant impact on Mesa County.  Over the Holiday weekend, three more individuals were arrested and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility for Possession of Schedule II drug (methamphetamines).
