MCSO Collected 450 Pounds Of Prescription Drugs
Mesa County, Colo. -- On Saturday, October 26, 2013, there were four sites across Mesa County collecting unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs. This was the bi-annual no questions asked collection by local law enforcement in tangent with the DEA.
Fruita Police Department, Palisade Police Department and the Grand Junction Police Department all collected prescription drugs at their respective sites (totals from them haven't come in yet). But, here at the Sheriff's Office, we collected 450 pounds of prescription drugs. This is the most we've ever collected at one site in the years since we've been participating in the event.
Every year the collection totals grow at every site across the County. And throughout the year, we get calls from citizens inquiring about when the next event will be held. We estimate the next Prescription Drug Take Back event to be around April 2014.
