Interstate Interdiction Nets Heroin

Two Arrested After Heroin Found In Vehicle

Mesa County, Colo. -- Yesterday afternoon, deputies with the Western Colorado Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 70, near mile marker 5. In the vehicle were two adult males, identifying themselves with Mexican Identification cards.

The driver was identified as Samuel Leon-Ruiz, 41, and the passenger Yahir Ruiz-Cota, 22, both consented to a search of the vehicle. A hidden compartment was located with 5.2 pounds of heroin and a large amount of cash. The estimated wholesale value of that amount of heroin is approximately $85,000.00. However, the street value is estimated at over two million dollars.

Samuel stated to deputies during the booking process he was previously convicted of trafficking three pounds of cocaine in Arizona. Both Yahir and Samuel were charged with money laundering and distribution of drugs related charges.
