MCSO arrest driver of a stolen car

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo – Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 53-year-old Albert Mersman of Pueblo Thursday afternoon after a stolen car was recovered.

Just before noon, Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies spotted a stolen jeep out of Pueblo.

The driver of the jeep, later identified as Mersman, took off and eluded deputies.

Mesa County Deputies later tracked the stolen jeep to a field off 28 ½ Road between I-70B and North Ave where they found it abandoned.

A short time later, deputies spotted Mersman near the 2800 block of Chipeta Avenue running towards a nearby shopping center.

Deputies caught up to Mersman  behind Solarus Square Shopping Center located at 28 ¼ Road and North Ave. He gave up and was arrested without incident.

Mersman is facing several charges including Second Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft.

Mersman is being held in the Mesa County Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond.
