Man Missing In Gunnison River Identified

Deputies Still Searching For Man Missing On Gunnison River

Mesa County, Colo. -- Deputies, along with Mesa County Search and Rescue Control, Inc. members, resumed active search efforts along the Gunnison River today around 8:30 a.m., near Whitewater. The man has been identified as Grand Junction resident, Rick Beaty, 59-years-old (DOB: 06/30/55). 

Searchers have been running the Gunnison River by boat and with swimmers in the water, in an area approximately 2 to 3 miles east of the Whitewater boat ramp. Spotters have traveled as far north along the Gunnison River, to the confluence of the Colorado River, in an effort to try and locate Rick. Also, no signs of him self rescuing have been located.
Searchers today, on their second day, suspended extensive search efforts around 4:30 p.m. Deputies will continue to run the Gunnison River by boat on a daily basis.
