Inmate facing attempted murder charge for attacking another inmate

MESA COUNTY, Colo – An inmate is facing new charges today stemming from an incident that occurred in the Mesa County Detention Facility.

David Castro, 32, of Clifton is accused of stabbing another inmate with an improvised weapon on June 13, 2019 at approximately 4:00 in the afternoon.

The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for his injuries. He has since been released and is back in the Mesa County Detention Facility.

Castro is facing the following charges:
  • Criminal Attempt of 1st Degree Murder (Class 2 Felony)
  • 1st Degree Assault (Class 3 Felony)
  • Felony Menacing (Class 5 Felony)
The case is still under investigation.
