Scam Targeting Sex Offenders
MESA COUNTY, COLO: A new scam that is targeting registered sex offenders has been reported to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. The scam involves individuals calling the sex offender and informing them they have a warrant for their arrest. Although similar to previous scams, this particular scam goes on to tell the offender that if they pay a specific amount of money, they can be removed from the county and state registry.Be aware of the scam and know law enforcement agencies will not call to inform you of an active warrant, law enforcement will not request you pay a fine or for a warrant over the telephone, and the only entity that can legally remove someone from the sex offender registry is the courts.
