Hundreds stolen from local businesses in change scam

MESA COUNTY, Colo - The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help to identify a suspect believed to be scamming local businesses out of cash.

At 6:40 Thursday evening, deputies believe the suspect went into the Maverik gas station in Clifton and scammed cashiers into giving him more change than he is entitled to stealing hundreds of dollars.

Employees report the suspect was smooth with his money handling and the the cashiers could not keep up.

This scam has possibly occurred at other gas stations in Mesa County. 

A photo of the suspect was captured on surveillance video. He is described as a black male, approximately 6'2" and 230 lbs last seen wearing a baseball cap and a black zip up jacket.
