At 6:48 p.m., the deputy was able to use his laser and determine the drivers speed was 81 mph in a 45 mph speed zone. The vehicle ultimately stopped and the deputy was able to make contact with the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. The driver was identified as 39-year-old, Grand Junction resident, Brandon Gonzales.
Gonzales was arrested without incident and taken to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Drove with excessive alcohol content in breath/blood
  • Careless driving
  • Speeding
  • Failure to yield to emergency vehicle

After being processed at the Detention Facility, Gonzales was able to call a sober adult. He called his mom. And then threw a temper tantrum, kicking a hole in the wall of the Sheriff's Office. That resulted in a Criminal Mischief charge and he was booked into the Detention Facility.
