Suspect Identified in Shooting


MESA COUNTY, Colo. - On November 12, 2016 at approximately 6:18 p.m., Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported shooting at 3060 Sandpiper Avenue.  An 11-year-old boy had been shot at this residence and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he later died.  Investigators have been working through the night, processing the crime scene and conducting multiple interviews.
Jeremy Mushrush, 41

Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for Jeremy James Mushrush, a 41-year-old male resident of Grand Junction, for the following charges:

Manslaughter (class 4 Felony); and
Attempting to Influence a Public Servant (class 4 Felony); and
Prohibited Use of a Weapon (class 2 Misdemeanor).

Mr. Mushrush is not related to the victim.

The 11-year-old boy's identity is not being released at this time, pending further investigation with the Mesa County Coroner's Office.  The Sheriff's Office continued to work closely with the District Attorney's Office and the Coroner's Office as this investigation moves forward.  All documents related to this case have been sealed by the court.
