Palisade Rim Trail now open

MESA COUNTY, Colo – After an extensive search of the area around the Palisade Rim Trail for a suspect, the hiking area is now back open to the public.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies began looking for an assault and attempted robbery suspect yesterday morning after a hiker reported the incident on the trail.

Multiple law enforcement agencies searched the area extensively on foot, with a K-9 unit, drones, and a multi-mission aircraft with inferred equipment. Investigators are confident the suspect is no longer in the area.

The investigation into the initial incident remains on-going.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind people recreating in our community to remain vigilant and take basic safety precautions.
  • If you see anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to call 911
  • Have a plan on where you are going and when you expect to return and share it with someone not recreating with you
  • Recreate with another person or in a group
  • Dress for the weather and take plenty of water
  • Carry a charged cell phone
