'Chalk One Up' For The Citizen Paying Attention

Mesa County, Colo. -- In the beginning hours of May 6, a citizen in the north area of Grand Junction called into dispatch to report a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood. The concerned citizen reported what appeared to be people attempting to enter vehicles in the neighborhood, unlawfully.
A detailed vehicle description was aired by dispatch for all deputies to be aware of the citizen's concern. Around 2 a.m., a deputy located a vehicle matching the suspicious vehicle and spoke with the two occupants of the truck. The two males, one a 16-year-old and the other identified as 21-year-old Evan Brunemeier, of Cory, Colo., spoke with deputies about entering vehicles that didn't belong to them.
The concerned citizen caller should be credited with deputies ability to solve this case so quickly, because of their initial call to dispatch expressing their concern and their detailed description of the vehicle. Citizens are encouraged to always report suspicious people, vehicles or incidents, especially in their neighborhood, because you never know what crime you will solve or prevent by making that simple call to report. Evan was charged with theft and felony criminal trespass of an automobile, along with a felony of contributing to the delinquency of minor, for his alleged influence on the teenager related to the crimes they are suspected of committing. Evan was booked into the Mesa County Detention facility yesterday, and currently remains in custody on a $5,000.00, cash or surety bond.
