Progress Continues on Spring Creek 2 Fire

BATTLEMENT MESA, Colo. – A second consecutive day of favorable conditions allowed crews on the Spring Creek 2 Fire southeast of Parachute to reach 70 percent containment.

Discovered Friday on private property in Garfield County, the Spring Creek 2 Fire moved rapidly into Mesa County narrowly missing homes in its path. Fire crews were able to save multiple primary residents, but 4 out buildings, 3 trailers and 3 vehicles were destroyed. No new structures are threatened.

The relentless work of wildfire firefighters and Sheriff’s Offices in Garfield and Mesa Counties held the fire at 621 acres and the fire perimeter hasn’t grown in the past 36 hours. Wildfire crews continue to improve and reinforce containment lines.

Access to County Road 306 between Spring Creek and Wallace Creed Roads remains restricted to residents and emergency vehicle traffic only.
